FPL 25/26 Season Start Date

Despite the slight delays in the launch of the game from our FPL overlords, the start of the 25/26 FPL season is nearly upon us. We here at Ingenuity Fantasy are pretty excited for this season, with FPL introducing double chips this season and a new layout (that needs some work), as well as the big 6 doing some pretty crazy transfer business worth the GDP of some countries. Exciting talents like Florian Wirtz, Viktor Gyokeres, Tijana Reijnders, Hugo Ekitike among many others have joined the Premier League and our wonderful little fantasy world we exist in. It should be a great season. But when does the FPL season start?

FPL Start Date Confirmed – Everything You Need to Know:

The Gameweek 1 deadline has now been confirmed by FPL. As expected, and as it was last season, Gameweek deadlines will take place 90 minutes before the opening game of the GW for the 25/26 FPL season. All teams and leagues that want to join the rest of us in starting the FPL season together in GW1, must have their team entered and saved/their league created by the opening GW deadline!

When Does FPL Start:

• The GW1 deadline to enter your team or league in time for the start of the FPL season is 6:30pm BST on Friday 15th August (15/08/25).
• Liverpool vs Bournemouth is the opening fixture of the 25/26 season, which starts at 8:00pm BST on Friday 15th August. FPL deadlines are always 90 minutes before the kick-off of the opening match of that GW.

Can You Join or Start an FPL League After the GW1 Deadline?

In short, YES. There is no closing date for registration of an FPL team or FPL mini-league. However your team will be down an entire GW of points if you start the season in GW2 or for every further week you delay creating and entering your team. You will therefore clearly be starting at a disadvantage in comparison to all of the other managers that entered their teams in time for GW1.
