FPL is back, and back with a bang. With plenty of new updates including an AI manager, new layout and new scoring, this year promises to spice things up big time. They have also added a new feature where you can customise your team’s badge using AI to add a unique touch to your experience.
Despite these new customisation features, the OG team name customisation is, and always will be, the most important. Whether you’re trying to win over your mates, colleagues or the world leaderboards, having a great team name is the first chance to cement yourself as a legend.
There are a multitude of different methods for choosing a team name. A good starting point is always puns. More specifically, puns on a players name. Essentially, think of a word or phrase you would like to include in your team name, and then see which footballers names sound similar enough to combine. For example, if I wanted to include the phrase ‘Netflix and Chill’ I would think about which footballers have similar sounding elements, and arrive at name like ‘Netflix and Chillwell’.
Another good method is to slightly alter the name of a player and team by one syllable or letter, to dramatically change the meaning. This usually works best with teams who feature multiple words or syllables, such as Athletico Madrid, who can become ‘Unathletico Madrid’.

FPL team names aren’t limited to playing off star players names.
