Transfer Overview:

Transfer:

  • Chelsea to Arsenal.

Tranfer Fee:

  • £48 million plus £4 million in add ons.

Contract Length:

  • 5 years. Contract runs until 2030.

Wage:

  • £50k per week plus likely goal, assist and trophy bonuses.

Individual Analysis:

Position:

  • His best role is as a right winger, which is where he played the large majority of his minutes for Chelsea, as you can see via his heatmap.
  • Given he is a player that has struggled for form and to produce, ideally his buying club would play him on the right hand side, but joining Arsenal, who have Saka, it’s most likely Madueke will be competing with Martinelli to start at LW.
  • He did play a small number of minutes on the left hand side last season but failed to make an impact that made the case he is a winger who thrives on both sides or was misprofiled as a right winger.

Role & Stats:

  • Madueke is a raw winger with athleticism, pace but unrefined skills and poor decision making in the final third. He likes to take on his man 1 0n 1, and from the RW he can get to the byline often but his delivery once he does is lacking. Think a poor mans Doku.
  • Cutting inside onto his right foot, from the left hand side, is not going to be something he does much because he is left footed, and even with his stronger foot Madueke is a poor finisher and a subpar ball striker, let alone with his right foot.
  • The young English winger scored 7 goals from 9.6xG last season which helps highlight that his finishing ability needs refinement. Not only did he underperform his xG by nearly 3 total goals, but his post shot xG (8.7xG) is lower than his xG, showing that Madueke actually lessens the value of a chance compared to an average player. This clearly displays that he is a poor finisher and decision maker in the final third at this stage of his career.
  • Madueke registered 3 assists from 3.15xA last season, which is poor output from a winger with over 2000 league minutes played. He only created 32 chances last season which is also a disappointing number for a winger with the number of starts and minutes he got.
  • His crossing, whether whipped in from wide areas or cut backs, is aimless at times. This is backed up by his 17% crossing accuracy which is not even 30th percentile for PL wingers. He doesn’t have varied forms of passes and crosses to create chances. Again, this is an area he is raw in and needs coaching to help refine.

Expected Minutes:

  • Madueke as of today, is battling Martinelli for minutes at LW. He may also be battling Eze for minutes and start if Arsenal do manage to get a deal done for Palace’s star man.
  • However, even if we ignore the possibility of Eze signing, potentially splitting minutes with Martinelli, as well as potentially Trossard or a healthy Jesus, does not make Madueke a particularly appealing FPL asset.
  • I think heavy rotation at that LW spot is very much in play.
  • I only expect Madueke to get minutes at RW if Saka is injured or being rested, which is not be often under Arteta.

FPL Position:

  • Cheap Midfielder

FPL Analysis:

  • Madueke will likely start the season as a cheap Midfielder, in and around the £6.5m range.
  • I expect Madueke EO to be very low to start the season, but if he begins to cement the LW spot as his own and puts in some good performances, this could climb. I would personally still avoid any hype and find other options until he shows consistency.
  • With the likely rotation at LW for Arsenal, and the fact they were truly quite far off Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City as an attacking team last season, it is hard to make the case for Madueke being in FPL teams for GW1.
  • I would rather have the likes of Semenyo, Doku, Elanga etc who will start in a similar price range.

Team Impact:

  • He adds an element of pace, ball carrying and 1 on 1 dribbling that Arsenal maybe lacked, but his lack of execution and end product make it hard to see how he makes any massive impact in his first season.
  • He does add depth to Arsenal’s forward line that they maybe lacked last season. While Saka and Havertz were out injured last season Arsenal really struggled to create and score, and Madueke could help not only when Arsenal are at full strength but particularly if they suffer injuries in attack.
  • Madueke’s arrival lowers Martinelli’s FPL ceiling and for now, makes him someone you cannot own.
  • I actually think Arsenal signing Madueke over an Eze for eg, has lowered the FPL ceiling for Gyokyeres who Arsenal have signed to be their star number 9. Madueke’s lack of chance creation, poor crossing and decision making hurt Chelsea’s strikers last season, and no reason he won’t do the same for an Arsenal team that was actually a worse open play chance creating side than Chelsea were.

FPL Price Range Prediction:

  • £6.0m-£6.5m

My Prediction:

  • I think I can keep this succinct. I am not a Noni Madueke believer, at least not for the 25/26 season. I think Arsenal overpaid for solid squad player who in 2-3 years might refine his game and be good, but also may never take that jump and continue to frustrate fans.
  • Even if Madueke manages to completely jump Martinelli in the pecking order for the LW spot at Arsenal, Eze joining may still be on the cards and therefore his expected minutes are too risky to take a bet on him.
  • There will simply be too many other Midfielders in the £6.0-£6.5m range, such as Semenyo, Doku, Savio, Mitoma etc that I would rather own to start the season.

G/A Prediction:

  • 6 goals

  • 3 assists
