Aston Villa Team News:

  • Speaking Friday, Emery strangely was very coy about injury news. He said “We will see tomorrow, I don’t want to anticipate. We have some players injured but I will want to train tomorrow and [see] how we can use the players in the squad for Sunday. Until tomorrow, the last training session, I don’t want to say anything.” Not much to go off, and who these injured players are wasn’t clarified.
  • Onana has a hamstring injury and is set to miss a few weeks. He will miss Belgium’s World Cup qualifiers. The injury was picked up in a Wednesday training session and is likely one of the injuries Emery is talking about.
  • Kamara is out for 2-3 weeks with a hamstring injury.
  • Tielemans and McGinn would likely form the midfield double pivot with Buendia starting in the 10, keeping Rogers out wide which it seems is what Emery wants to do.
  • Konsa returns from his suspension.
  • Emery has started Digne in both games thus far. It looks like the veteran is not ready to give up his place to Maatsen just yet but this will still be one to pay attention to throughout the season.
  • Malen surely gets his first start of the season now.

GK - Henderson
RWB - Munoz
CB - Richards
CB - Lacroix
CB - Guehi
LWB - Mitchell
CM - Wharton
CM - Kamada
RAM - Sarr
LAM - Devenny
ST - Mateta

Crystal Palace Team News:

  • Guehi may not be a Crystal Palace player by the time this game comes around with Liverpool and Palace in negotiations. If he was to be sold, Mitchell may then play LCB and Clyne play LWB.
  • Glasner revealed Friday that “We have a question mark with Will Hughes. We will see, we will have to assess in the next two days if he’s available for Villa.”
  • Kamada returned and started Thursday against Fredrikstad in the Europa League qualifiers. Glasner said “The players from yesterday look well. With Daichi [Kamada], big credit to our fitness and medical departments”. He should start alongside Wharton in GW3.
  • Devenny is the man to replace Eze in the starting XI.
