The best budget FPL goalkeepers for the 2025/26 season. Can we go with just Dubravka? Are there any gems at £4.5m?
Do not go too crazy but we finally have a confirmed £4m Goalkeeper alert. The boffins at FPL towers did not see the Dubravka move happening and as a result, we now have ourselves a starting £4m goalkeeper. But just because we have one, doesn’t mean we start him, and finding another starting keeper is preferable.
Not least as Burnley have only just been promoted, and despite a stellar defensive record in the championship, the Premier League presents a whole new set of challenges. Without further ado, we present to you the best goalkeepers in the £4m-£4.5m Range.
We kick things off with Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. The clarets most recent signing should go straight to the top of the pecking order following the departure of Trafford to Man City.
There are a couple of bonus reasons to be optimistic about Dubravka besides the price point. The first one, is his proven record in the premier league. Unlike promoted teams of the past, Dubravka is prem proven as more than serviceable. The Slovakian was stellar servant to Newcastle for years and was an excellent shot stopper during his time there. Despite being slightly older, when called upon for Newcastle last season he was more than up to the task.
Add Burnley’s defensive record from last season into the mix, and you have a potentially great value £4m goalkeeper. How much of this will change following the departure of Trafford and the challenges of the Premier League remains to be seen, but there is definitely reason for optimism. At minimum he should be in 100% of teams as the 2nd keeper.
As the 6th highest owned player in FPL, there seems to be a fairly resounding consensus about who everyone’s favourite £4.5m goalkeeper is, and to be honest, with good reason.
Brentford look set to continue the same style of play set in motion by Thomas Frank with the appointment of Keith Andrews. A style of play which resulted in Flekken finishing as the 4th highest scoring goalkeeper in the league last year.
This is in no small part down to the sheer amount of saves he made throughout the season.
Kelleher profiles as a similarly good shot stopper with decent Premier League experience, so logic would dictate we can expect a similar season to last year for the Bees new keeper.
Another keeper from a big 6 team moving to the premier league’s middle class is Dorde Petrovic. The Chelsea man was deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, meaning Bournemouth were able to make a move for the Serb.
Bournemouth were quietly one of the leagues better defences, ranking 7th in xGC, ahead of the likes of Chelsea, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest. However, to say their defence has been gutted would be an understatement. With centre back pairing Huijsen and Zabarnyi off to Real Madrid and PSG respectively and Kerkez departing for Liverpool, the cherries find themselves short staffed at the back, and keeping that solid defence will be a tall order. Although keeping Iraola does provide a solid chance of Bournemouth turning in another great defensive season.
The initial fixture against Liverpool is also not ideal, and has definitely not helped his ownership %.
The Dutchman is now back from injury and should slot right back into the starting position for the seagulls.
Even though Brighton have a reputation as a solid top half team, their defence is not quite up to par with their attack. Finishing 11th in xGC and with no major improvements made along the defensive line, logic would dictate that we can expect a similar performance to last year.
Verbruggen is also returning from a big injury and Brighton do have serviceable deputies ready to fill in, so this also casts a cloud of doubt.
All things considered Verbruggen is not a bad option at all but Kellher and Petrovic are ahead of him for now.
Following the departure of Lukasz Fabianski, Areola profiles as West Ham’s starting keeper for the upcoming season.
On paper, West Ham often tend to have a solid team and indeed defence, yet a dismal 2024/25 campaign saw West Ham struggle towards a 14th place finish, and finish bottom 5 in xGC.
West Ham have also just signed Mads Hermansen from Leicester for £18m to compete with Areola for the starting job. Although the spot appears Areola’s for now.
Either way, staying a way from West Ham’s defence is advisable until will see marked improvement.
