Big Man Bakar brings you his best Gameweek 2 Wildcard team. If you are considering using your Wildcard chip after a rough GW1, then this is a must read.

Big Man Bakar’s Best GW2 Wildcard Team

Some managers who have started the season slowly are already questioning whether they picked the right squad. Early disappointments and quick rises in ownership for certain players have led many to consider using the Wildcard as soon as Gameweek 2. This draft aims to provide a strong balance of secure starters, premium captaincy choices, and a few smart differentials that can help recover lost ground.

The Best Wildcard Team for Gameweek 2:

Goalkeepers:

In goal, Robert Sanchez looks like one of the best long-term picks. Chelsea ended last season with one of the best defensive records in the league, finishing second only to Arsenal for expected goals conceded. Their opening fixtures are kind and Sanchez offers steady access to their backline. Alongside him, Martin Dubravka’s move to Burnley completely changes the goalkeeper market. At four million, having a nailed-on starter not only frees up funds for upgrades elsewhere but also provides reliable backup when needed.

Defenders:

The defence includes a mix of attacking potential and strong fixtures. Patrick Dorgu, playing as a wing-back, hit the post in Gameweek 1 and should continue to pose a threat while being secure for starts. Neco Williams looks solid value in a Nottingham Forest side with good defensive numbers. Marcos Senesi is attractive now that Bournemouth’s hardest fixture against Liverpool is behind them, with a kind run ahead. Esteve at four million is playable this week at home to Sunderland and offers scope for defensive contributions. Ezri Konsa, despite being suspended, provides value as a rotating enabler who fits nicely with this setup.

Midfielders:

Midfield is where much of the firepower lies. Mohamed Salah is close to essential given his sky-high ownership and proven reliability. Gameweeks 4 and 5, where Liverpool face Burnley and Everton, look especially dangerous to go without him. Bukayo Saka is included as the Arsenal attacker of choice, offering minutes security and consistent output. Bruno Fernandes looks promising under the updated scoring system, with defensive metrics now rewarded more heavily, plus penalties and a favourable Gameweek 3 match against Burnley. Cole Palmer was disappointing in Gameweek 1 but faces West Ham at home, which presents an ideal opportunity to get back on track. Tijjani Reijnders is exceptional value in his bracket and should retain his starting spot – for now.

Forwards:

Up front, Jean-Philippe Mateta is well placed for minutes with Nketiah injured and could assume penalty duties if Eze is out. Larsen looks a reliable six and a half million striker, likely the focal point for Wolves in Cunha’s absence and a potential penalty taker. Guiu rounds out the attack as a long-term enabler, though fitness concerns remain.
