Brad Mayor’s FPL Buy, Sell or Hold – GW2

Gameweek 1 is now done! We now have a small sample of data to make some more informed decisions from. Did you have a good start, or are you already behind in your mini-league? Either way, we’ll look at the most pressing dilemmas ahead of Gameweek 2.

Who to buy, who to sell, and who to hold for GW2?

Florian Wirtz:

The first player we’re going to look at is Florian Wirtz. After an impressive pre-season for Liverpool, the German had a disappointing Premier League debut. He didn’t manage to register a goal or an assist and he looked a little bit slow on the ball. This is quite common for players who have moved from another league, as the Premier League can often be a bit more demanding in terms of time on the ball and general intensity. However, his quality is clear for all to see so I would give him more time in your team before you look to move him on.

Conclusion: Hold

Antoine Semenyo:

The Friday night game saw Liverpool take on Bournemouth and we were all expecting Salah and Wirtz to grab the headlines. However, it was Ekitike and Semenyo that impressed the most. Semenyo was likely being overlooked before the season started due to the tough gameweek 1 fixture but now Bournemouth have a very nice run. They play Wolves at home in gameweek 2 and last season, only Salah and Palmer took more shots than Semenyo so I’d be surprised if he isn’t amongst the goals again this week.

Conclusion: Buy

Elliot Anderson:

Anderson or Reijnders was a popular decision before Gameweek 1 as they looked to be the pick of the £5.5m midfielders. It turns out there was no wrong answer as both players impressed. Anderson had a fantastic game against a struggling Brentford as he and Gibbs-White dominated the midfield. Anderson was playing in a very attacking role which was somewhat unexpected and he was also on all set pieces. Reijnders came away with more attacking returns but if you own Elliot Anderson then I wouldn’t be selling him anytime soon.

Conclusion: Hold

Cole Palmer:

Cole Palmer has already been transferred out by over 100,000 managers after his blank against Crystal Palace. After a difficult end to last season, he appeared to return to form during the Club World Cup but he struggled at the weekend. Despite this, he still took 4 shots and only 4 players had more touches in the penalty area. Chelsea play West Ham in Gameweek 2, who conceded 3 goals to Sunderland and looked a mess at the back so this is the perfect fixture for Palmer to shine.

Conclusion: Hold

Danny Welbeck:

Those that started with Danny Welbeck can consider themselves somewhat unlucky as he started on the bench for Brighton and only got 22 minutes. This was somewhat predictable as Brighton started with the exact lineup that they played in their last pre-season friendly. Either way, they didn’t look too impressive going forward and there’s no guarantee that he will come in and start every game.

Conclusion: Sell
