Brad Mayor brings you his most pressing buy, sell or hold players in FPL ahead of GW3.
Gameweek 2 saw some huge ups and some even bigger downs! Whether you had a great week or a terrible one, we’ll look at the most pressing dilemmas ahead of Gameweek 3. Who to buy, who to sell, and who to hold.
The first player we’re going to look at is Morgan Rogers. Aston Villa have started the season pretty poorly, having drawn against Newcastle and lost against Brentford, both without scoring a goal.
Rogers’ numbers have also been less than impressive as he’s taken just two shots, neither of which was on target, and has created no big chances.
Understandably, people will be tempted to sell the Englishman, but I think he’s worth keeping. Everton (A), Sunderland (A), and Burnley (H) in their next five is a fantastic set of fixtures, so I’d back Villa and Rogers to find some of the form that served them so well last season.
Conclusion: Hold
Man United have taken just one point from their opening two games against Arsenal and Fulham. However, one positive to take from these results is that Cunha has started life in Manchester very well.
He’s yet to register an attacking return, but his underlying numbers have been great. 7 shots, which is the joint 3rd most in the league, and 4 on target, which is the most in the league this season.
He’s looked dangerous in the first two weeks, and with a nice fixture of Burnley at home in GW3, he’s definitely one to target.
Conclusion: Buy
Bruno Fernandes owners will feel hard done by after his Gameweek 2 performance against Fulham.
The midfielder hit the defensive contribution threshold but missed a penalty skying it over the bar, meaning that he finished the game on two points. He was also only one point away from hitting the defensive contribution threshold against Arsenal in Gameweek 1, so as expected, he should pick up these extra points on a regular basis.
With a home fixture against Burnley up next, Bruno is definitely one to hold for GW3.
Conclusion: Hold
Florian Wirtz was one of the standout performers in pre-season, playing well in against Palace in the Community Shield, so he was unsurprisingly a very popular pick for Gameweek 1.
He’s failed to bring that pre-season form into the Premier League and has struggled in Liverpool’s first two games against Bournemouth and Newcastle. It’s a difficult fixture against Arsenal in GW3, but then it’s Burnley (A) and Everton (H), so it’s worth trying to curb the temptation to sell him and give him a couple more weeks.
Conclusion: Hold
West Ham’s start to the season couldn’t have gone much worse after losing to Sunderland and Chelsea. Eight goals conceded and just one goal scored for the Hammers, and the fixtures don’t suggest that it will get easier for them in the near future.
Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, and Crystal Palace in the next 3 for West Ham, who have all been impressive defensively this season so far. Therefore, I would sell Bowen this week.
Conclusion: Sell
