Finally, FPL is official back and it’s time to make my first draft of the season!

Salah – £14.5m… Overpriced?

  • Salah has been priced as the most expensive asset in the campaign for a reason. He is 14.5 and Haaland at 14.0.
  • I’ve already decided to get only 1 premium out of Salah and Haaland. Getting both will negatively affect my team structure and leave my draft unbalanced.
  • Salah proved his consistency and explosivity last season and is always a great captaincy pick in the opening GW. Wirtz will enhance Liverpool attack and Salah has higher ceiling due to the extra point for goal and CS as a mid. In addition, there are many mid-priced forwards (or even Marmoush) that can cover Haaland’s points. In this case, I’ll prioritize Salah over Haaland.

Palmer – £10.5m:

  • After a successful Club World Cup, I believe Cole will be a great pick for the opening few weeks of the season. Chelsea has a great run of fixtures at the start of the season and Palmer should reward us. He is good alternative captain to rotate captaincy between him and Salah.

Wirtz – £8.5m:

  • The Reds new signing and most expensive one in PL this summer should be nailed in Slot’s lineups as an attacking midfielder (No. 10) who has flexibility on wings and as a false nine. His price at £8.5m only makes him much attractive and highly recommended to start in your draft. In 31 starts in Bundesliga 2024/205, he recorded 10 goals and 12 assists and he has already started delivering in the preseason with 2 assists.

Mid-priced Forwards:

Wood:

  • Wood finished among the Premier League’s top scorers, placing him alongside the likes of Salah, Haaland, and Isak as he recorded 18 goals and 3 assists last campaign in his 30 appearances, with very high shot conversion of 36%. I think it was arguably the best season of his career and NFO is improving with Santo and I believe his easy schedule at the start of the season will help him get some decent points.

J. Pedro:

  • The Brazilian signed from Brighton roughly a week before the tournament and immediately became a key figure in Chelsea’s trophy run, scoring three goals in his first three appearances. After the semifinal, when he was player of the match, Enzo Maresca praised his grasp of the game and ability to break down low blocks. I believe he became nailed and prioritized over Delap. He has the flexibility to start as no 10 or on the wing, too.

Solanke:

  • Thomas Frank was named head coach of Spurs, replacing Ange Postecoglou. He moved over from Brentford and Solanke should benefit from his attacking style in a similar way to Wissa’s improvement last season.
  • Despite only 25 starts for Spurs last season, in a bad campaign, he still delivered 14 goal involvements. He is a proven asset and should improve this season.
  • On the other hand, I’ll avoid Wissa and monitor Brentford performance at the start of the season after Brentford lost their Manager T. Frank and their talisman, Mbeumo. They also face NFO, AVL and CHE in opening 4 GWs.
  • I think I’ll end up getting 2 out of these 3 forwards: Wood, Pedro or Solanke.
